| Ilustre honor del nombre de Cardona, décima moradora del Parnaso, a Tansillo, a Minturno, al culto Taso sujeto noble de inmortal corona; si en medio del camino no abandona la fuerza y el espirtu a vuestro Laso, por vos me llevará mi osado paso a la cumbre difícil de Helicona. Podré llevar entonces, sin trabajo, con dulce son que el curso al agua enfrena, por un camino hasta agora enjuto, el patrio celebrado y rico Tajo, que del valor de su luciente arena a vuestro nombre pague el gran tributo. |
Oh illustrious honor named Cardona, you are the tenth hailed muse of high Parnassus, who Tansillo, Minturno, and learned Tasso noble subject made and crowned immortal; but if along the path abandons not thy forces and thy spirits Garcilaso, then by you my bolder steps will take me up the hard-won peak to Helicon. And there then will I take, effortlessly, with sweet song which can recourse the river, through a path which as of yet is dry, the celebrated fatherland of Tagus, so the richness of its glittering sand may rightly pay great tribute to your name. |
